Valencia, February 22, 2025 — The MAINBIOTICS laboratory at IATA-CSIC took part in the 16th edition of the Congress of the Spanish Society for Microbiota, Probiotics, and Prebiotics (SEMiPyP), held on February 19–21 at the Illa Auditorium in Barcelona.
Under the theme “The Microbiota and Its Modulation: Clinical Applications”, the congress brought together national and international experts to discuss the latest advances in microbiome research and its impact on human health.
During the event, MAINBIOTICS researchers presented several key studies across various areas of microbiota research:
-
Dr. MCarmen Collado, principal investigator of the laboratory, participated in two roundtables: on Thursday, February 20, with the talk “Vertical transmission of the microbiome: Microbial inheritance” in the session on Social Microbiome, and on Friday, February 21, as moderator of the Clinical (Perinatal Medicine) session alongside Dr. Luis Peña.
-
Anna Samarra, predoctoral student, delivered an oral presentation titled “The gut resistome during the first year of life: the impact of breastfeeding and bifidobacteria on its development” on Friday, February 21, in the veterinary microbiology session.
-
Ana Enríquez, predoctoral researcher, presented her poster on Thursday, February 20, titled “Exploring the milk microbiota of the Asian elephant: lactation time and environmental factors.” The study, conducted on semi-captive elephants in Myanmar, identified 78 isolates, mainly lactic acid bacteria, and revealed that milk microbiota varies throughout pregnancy and changes its composition according to the season.
-
Anna Valls, predoctoral researcher, presented her poster on Friday, February 21, titled “Microbiota and environment: exploring key factors in 6-year-old children.”
Beyond its scientific contributions, MAINBIOTICS also played a key role in the organization of SEMiPyP 2025. Dr. MCarmen Collado, a member of the society’s board, was actively involved in the planning of the congress, helping ensure a high-level program and promoting dialogue among experts.
This event served as an essential platform for knowledge exchange and the creation of synergies. MAINBIOTICS’ involvement in SEMiPyP 2025 reaffirms its commitment to advancing microbiota research and its implications for human health.
