Valencia, September 27, 2024 – Researchers from MAINBIOTICS, part of the Lactic Acid Bacteria and Probiotics Group at IATA-CSIC, actively participated in MEDNIGHT 2024, a science outreach event that brought together researchers and citizens from across Europe to promote interest in science and innovation. On this occasion, MAINBIOTICS once again presented the interactive activity “The Gut Adventure”, designed to raise awareness about the importance of gut bacteria in human health.
The activity allowed participants—both adults and children—to explore, in a fun and educational way, the impact of bacteria on the digestive system. By journeying through a “giant intestine,” attendees learned about the role of probiotics and prebiotics in maintaining a healthy microbiota. Equipped with “bacteria balls,” children faced off against a virus, gaining a better understanding of how a balanced diet and beneficial bacteria can strengthen the body’s natural defenses.
The event, held on September 27, was marked by a lively and engaging atmosphere where visitors interacted with experts and took part in learning activities. The initiative was a hit among young participants and also gave adults the chance to deepen their knowledge of digestive health through Q&A sessions with the researchers.
Such initiatives are part of MAINBIOTICS’ ongoing commitment to promoting digestive health and encouraging public engagement in science, empowering people to make informed decisions about their well-being.
About MEDNIGHT 2024 in Spain
MEDNIGHT 2024 (Mediterranean Researchers’ Night) was a prominent celebration of science and culture that took place on September 27, 2024 in Spain. This international event brought together eight Mediterranean countries, with a special focus on Spain, to promote science and cultural exchange. The celebration offered the public a unique platform to connect with science in everyday life, encouraging interaction between researchers, scientists, and the general public in an open and accessible environment.
Throughout the day, Spanish cities came alive with interactive activities, exhibitions, and scientific workshops, highlighting the contributions of women in science. MEDNIGHT not only showcased scientific advances in areas such as sustainability, clean energy, and biomedicine, but also promoted gender equality and inclusion in STEM fields. The event was also part of the European Researchers’ Night, an initiative held simultaneously in over 400 European cities, aimed at sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for science and research among youth and society at large.
